Intelligence in WW1

Andrew Williams is a former BBC journalist and award winning documentary maker, an historian and historical novelist with a particular interest in intelligence gathering in World War. Details of his work can be found on line in Wikipedia or on his website. Andrew will be talking about intelligence gathering on the Western Front and behind German lines in occupied France and Belgium in 1916 and 1917, the failure of the operation at Haig's headquarters and the relationship between the field marshal and his head of intelligence, Scotsman, John Charteris. He will explain why this is such a fascinating area for historians, and why he chose to dramatise it in his novel The Suicide Club.
