Dr Fraser Brown, 'Los voluntarios Escoceses': Scots volunteers from the Argentine.

The determinedly neutral Argentine contained many communities which had their origins in the belligerent nations of Europe. At the outbreak of the Great War German, Austrian, French and Italian reservists attempted to return to their homelands while the British Volunteers from Latin America (BVLA) were one part of a very substantial overt and covert contribution to the British war effort. This talk will describe the Scots contribution to the BVLA, why they were there, what they did and how they are commemorated.
